Product Director at DuckDuckGo with a side dish of Stoop
When did you start CF?
What are your favorite numbers and why?
9 – Michael Jordan’s Olympic number. 3 – I’ve got 3 kids
What CF movements do you like?
Row, DB snatch, deadlift, not-too-heavy power clean, weighted box step ups, burpee jump overs (either bar or box)
What CF movements do you dislike?
Anything with a squat with weight in the front. Front squat, wall balls, thrusters, squat cleans
What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
Some organized sports in high school, long ago (basketball, cross country), but more recently only occasionally running. Never touched a barbell before Kanna.
How did you find CF? What was your first workout?
My brother does it and recommended I give it a try. First workout was strict presses from the rack, sharing a bar with Dave G. I think he lifted 3x what I did. Oh, and the air squats from base camp left me sore for a week.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
It feels like a team sport, which is great in an unexpected way. The camaraderie and lighthearted competition with each other is fun. And it’s great to just feel more capable as a human.
What are your hobbies?
Working on my side project (Stoop), procuring great coffee and great beer, hanging with the fam by the pool, watching Philly sports.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I was in Europe on an economics study abroad the day the Euro became available as paper money, January 1, 2002. You could still use the native country currency at the time, and, to my surprise I was the only one in my group / class that was excited to exchange money to get some physical Euros on day one, just for the sake of it.
What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
300lb deadlift, Sub 20 min 5k row, strict toes to bar, first pull ups.
What’s on your CF bucket list?
Rx The Open one of these years
What’s on your general bucket list?
Start a startup again. Lots of travel with the fam.
What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
Action precedes motivation!
Anything else you’d like to mention?
Kanna has been great, thanks!
***Kanna members: Tim’s custom workout will be TBD (obviously)***
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
